Bringing Fast Finality and ZK Proofs to the OP Stack with Succinct

OP Succinct gives your rollup fast finality via ZK proofs, and Conduit will integrate it for you.

Bringing Fast Finality and ZK Proofs to the OP Stack with Succinct

We’re teaming up with Succinct to bring zero-knowledge proofs to the OP Stack! With this partnership, we’re enabling any OP Stack chain on Conduit to ditch the seven-day withdrawal period and get fast finality with Succinct’s new OP Succinct implementation. With zero-knowledge (ZK) validity proofs from OP Succinct, users can withdraw funds to Ethereum mainnet in minutes, making your chain a more attractive destination, all without introducing significant new fees.

Conduit rollups can enable OP Succinct without lifting a finger. Reach out to us if you want to launch an OP Stack chain with ZK proofs or if you want to convert an existing chain into a ZK rollup!

How OP Succinct works

Succinct makes it easy for developers to integrate ZK proofs into their product, and OP Succinct is their new offering for rollups. OP Succinct turns an OP Stack chain into a Type-1 zkEVM by proving the OP Stack’s State Transition Function (STF) leveraging Succinct's SP1 prover.

Historically, zkEVMs were difficult to run with high on and off chain costs and complicated custom implementations. But OP Succinct integrates with your rollup using standard Rust code, making it easy to customize and maintain, while still achieving the lightning fast performance your rollup needs.

All of this is possible thanks to the OP Stack’s modularity and customizability. Succinct collaborated with OP Labs to implement OP Stack’s State Transition Function (STF) into its zkEVM. This design enables rollups to use ZK proofs for validation, while still relying on battle-tested OP Stack infrastructure for all other rollup components. Given Conduit’s long history of collaboration with Optimism, it was clear that Succinct was an ideal partner to bring the power of ZK proofs to our OP Stack rollup customers.

Advantages of OP Succinct

OP Succinct gives rollup developers three key benefits:

  • Fast finality. The seven-day withdrawal period is one of the biggest UX hurdles rollups face. It keeps liquidity siloed, limits traders’ flexibility, and disincentivizes users from trying your chain. Traditionally, the only way around the withdrawal period has been to integrate a third-party bridge, but this comes with additional friction and security trade-offs. OP Succinct lets rollups prove transaction validity faster with ZK proofs, and decreases withdrawal times from seven days to under an hour.
  • Low transaction fees: OP Succinct adds under 1 cent in fees per transaction ($0.005 on average) top cover proving costs — a small price to pay for fast finality and other benefits. The proving costs are expected to drop even more in the future.
  • Type-1 EVM Equivalence. OP Succinct rollups are fully EVM equivalent, including full bytecode compatibility. All tooling and smart contracts that work with OP Stack rollups work with OP Succinct Rollups, with no changes necessary.

In short, OP Succinct gives your rollup all the benefits of validity proofs while maintainig the benefits of the OP Stack.

Conduit makes OP Succinct seamless

Integrating OP Succinct is easy for Conduit rollups.

  • New chains can deploy using the OP Stack as they normally would, and convert to OP Succinct by launch.
  • If you already have a live OP Stack rollup, there’s no need to redeploy. Conduit can convert you to OP Succinct and seamlessly switch validation for your rollup to ZK proofs.

Either way, Conduit and Succinct do all the heavy lifting, and you and your users get fast finality.
